Save Mart Supermarkets opened its first store in Modesto, California in 1952, offering Central Valley families the freshest food at the greatest value. Since then, Save Mart has grown to 79 stores from Tehachapi to Chico and everywhere in between. In addition to nourishing families, Save Mart focuses on helping people come together around the table by providing fresh ways of eating, responding to changing lifestyles and honoring traditions. Save Mart continues its Central Valley roots and remains headquartered in Modesto.
Lucky was founded in San Leandro, California in 1935. The Lucky brand changed ownership many times over the years and in 2007 the stores found their home at The Save Mart Companies. There are 61 stores in and around the San Francisco Bay Area and our Associates are passionate about the diverse flavors that Californians love to make and eat. Lucky stores provide customers with great value on everyday items and has everything they need, all with a flair and diversity unique to the Bay Area.
The first FoodMaxx opened in 1986 in Bakersfield and we have grown to 54 stores throughout California and Northern Nevada. FoodMaxx is our unique “warehouse-style”, value-format grocery chain. It’s where value meets freshness in a no-frills, membership-free marketplace. We respect our customers’ monthly food budgets and understand how far a dollar should stretch, not only at the dinner table, but for every meal occasion. In addition to selling groceries, we are also feeding families and the communities we serve.
In 2025, The Save Mart Companies welcomed the Roth's and Chuck's Fresh Markets to our family of stores. Providing shoppers with the best selection of fresh produce, meat, bakery, and deli offerings, Roth's nine stores are located throughout the Mid-Willamette Valley in Oregon and Chuck's two stores serve Vancouver, Washington. Collectively, all our stores share a similar origin of strong family roots, continuing the traditions of meaningful commitments to local growers, communities, and associates, and creating enjoyable shopping experiences.
