Save Mart, Lucky and FoodMaxx stores kick-off Holiday Give. Share. CARE! drive to benefit local food banks Ending Holiday Hunger One Meal at a Time
Modesto, Calif., (November 18, 2014)—The Save Mart family has launched this year’s holiday drive, raising not only money for local food banks, but awareness about the unprecedented need for food security in our communities.
At most Northern California food banks, a donation of $35 will provide a family of four one week’s worth of meals. Understanding this, Save Mart will partner with shoppers to collect cash donations, allowing food banks to leverage the money to best meet community needs. Between now and January 2, 2015, shoppers can select a tag at checkout and directly donate to fund a meal for the local food bank: $2 for Breakfast, $3 for Lunch, $5 for Dinner. Thirty-five (35) highneed, local food banks throughout Northern California and Northern Nevada were selected to receive these funds.
“Second Harvest is very proud of the partnership we have with Save Mart, the holiday program has allowed us to purchase nutritious food options for those suffering from food insecurity. Save Mart understands that hunger is a major issue in the markets that they serve and we thank them for their continued support in alleviating hunger in our communities. – Mike Mallory, Executive Director of Second Harvest Food Bank of San Joaquin & Stanislaus Counties”
“Hunger is a very real problem in our communities. As a local grocer, Save Mart is committed to fighting food insecurity in our neighborhoods. Our fresh food rescue program has provided over 11 million pounds of wholesome perishable food to communities throughout Northern California,” explained Nicole Pesco, Co-President and Chief Strategy & Branding Officer of Save Mart Supermarkets. “This holiday season we are asking our shoppers to help us meet this need.”
Last year Save Mart’s holiday program raised over $200,000 for local food banks.
