$148,000 Donated to San Franscisco Food Bank
Modesto, Calif., January 19, 2012– Even in the midst of continuing economic woes and during a strained holiday season Save Mart, Lucky, and FoodMaxx customers and employees together donated $148,000 to feed those less fortunate. Customers know purchasing $1.00 icons when shopping doesn’t impact the budget much but it does allow everyone’s dollar to make a huge difference. Our customers also appreciated that their dollars go back into the communities where they live and many donated every time they shopped.
Save Mart’s President, Steve Junqueiro presented a mock-up check, product weighing in at 18,254 pounds, and 1,200 boxes of Kraft Mac & Cheese were delivered by “Big Red” to the San Francisco Food Bank’s Huddle for Hunger Event on Friday, December 27. As part of Feeding America’s buying power, this donation translates to One Million meals for Northern California and Northern Nevada food banks.
Cash donations really help supplement food banks with much needed items like protein and produce. With the support, size, and buying power of Feeding America, local food banks can purchase these items for pennies on the dollar. Being able to offer produce and protein offerings such as meat and chicken greatly benefits those who otherwise have no options for eating nutritious meals.
It was a great way to end a great “giving” year for Save Mart Supermarkets.
