Under a blazing hot sun, Warriors fans and Lucky shoppers gathered at the Lake Merritt store for a good cause: hunger. For a $20 donation to the Alameda County Food Bank, 150 people gained entry into a private parking lot tent where Klay Thompson and Zaza Pachulia signed autographs. The players signed pictures, jerseys and shoes. Ticket sales were limited so that everyone could enjoy the experience.
When you add the money from the holiday drive to the Warriors/Lucky event, the Food Bank received $34,765. That’s enough for more than 78,000 meals. That’s an amazing amount because one in five residents living in Alameda County suffers from hunger. The rest of the year, Lucky Supermarkets supports the food bank through the Fresh Rescue and Shares programs.
