Our shoppers have once again come through for disaster victims. After one week of enabling all Save Mart and Lucky stores to collect cash donations at checkstands, we were able to help raise more than $34,000. All proceeds will benefit the American Red Cross, which will direct the funds to areas hit by any one of the fires that hit Northern California in October.
In addition, our Sacramento store employees (Save Mart: 2501 Fair Oaks Blvd.) showed amazing kindness when a local Red Cross representative said they needed help with a sudden influx of 200 fire evaucees. Those employees donated their Fun Committee money, which usually enables them to do something fun at work. “I know this is not considered a typical Fun Committee event, but, boy, it sure brings a warm feeling to the hearts of our team to help in any way we can,” said Store Manager Michael Doktor.
That donation, plus a small corporate discount, enabled the Red Cross to cut down their grocery bill down by almost half. Hats of to our shoppers and employees!
