Company donates more than $15,000 to local organizations in preparation of new store opening; 4-H Clubs, Lassen Elementary School, Shasta County Search and Rescue, Turtle Bay Exploration Park, and Wishes for Warriors veterans groups among recipients
REDDING, Calif. (June 18, 2020) — The Save Mart Companies (TSMC) affirmed its longstanding commitment to the communities it serves by announcing new partnerships to local Redding organizations that include local 4H Clubs, Dignity Health Connected Living, Lassen Elementary School, Shasta County Fair Livestock Auction, Shasta County Search and Rescue, Turtle Bay Exploration Park, and the Wishes for Warriors veterans groups.
There will be two sources of donations to the region: one through Save Mart and another through the Save Mart Companies C.A.R.E.S. Foundation. Donations provided by Save Mart will total $8,000, while those donated through the Save Mart Companies C.A.R.E.S Foundation total more than $7,000. Each donation will provide much needed assistance to those who live in the greater Redding community as the company prepares to open its newest store in the region.
“When our communities are in need of assistance that goes beyond healthy food, The Save Mart Companies feels compelled to lend support,” explained Nicole Pesco, chief executive officer of The Save Mart Companies and board chair of The Save Mart Companies C.A.R.E.S. Foundation. “Ensuring access to safe recreational activities, supporting early education and agricultural education, and re-enforcing social safety-net programs are essential for a community to thrive.”
The Save Mart Companies C.A.R.E.S. Foundation was established as a means of strengthening the communities served by FoodMaxx, Lucky / Lucky California and Save Mart stores. Annually, the foundation contributes approximately a quarter of a million dollars in small grants to support community-based, non-profit organizations throughout the companies’ operating areas. The Save Mart Companies’ charitable giving guidelines are as diverse as the communities served because every neighborhood has its own unique needs.
With the need to provide summertime activities for youngsters top of mind for parents this year, The Save Mart C.A.R.E.S. Foundation will support Discovery Camps at Turtle Bay with a donation of $7,350. The summer day camps provide an opportunity for seven to 12-year-old children to participate in various science activities, crafts, games, and more. Turtle Bay encourages collaboration, creative thinking, and interactive hands-on learning. Campers can try new and different activities, attend various Turtle Bay programs, and visit the Parrot Playhouse and exhibitions.
The newest Save Mart will feature raised garden beds in its outdoor seating area in the front of the store in coordination with the Shasta County 4H Garden Club. The club will receive a donation of $1,000 and will maintain the beds — flowers in the winter and produce in the summer. During the annual harvest season, the club will hold farmer’s market-style produce sales in front of the store to sell what they grow and raise funds for their club’s activities throughout the year.
TSMC has a rich history of supporting ranchers of all ages and has allocated $3,000 to the Shasta County Fair Livestock Auction. In year’s past, TSMC store managers have attended and bid on livestock that has been hand-raised by area students.
Redding’s newest Save Mart store has designated nearby Lassen Elementary School for its Adopt-A-School program. Located a mile from the new store, Lassen Elementary will receive a donation of $1,000 and enjoy year-round support from the Save Mart team that includes teacher treats, donated books, and other resources.
Save Mart is honored to support the Redding chapter of Wishes for Warriors with a $1,000 donation. Dedicated to returning hope and passion into the lives of wounded veterans of the U.S. armed forces, this veteran run, volunteer operated organization offers therapeutic outdoor adventures, awareness, and education. The non-profit 501(c)(3) organization’s mission is to show veterans that whether wounded in body or mind, they are still able to live out their passions, hope for the future and improve quality of life.
Save Mart is honored to support the brave first responders of Shasta County Search and Rescue team with a donation of $1,000. The search and rescue team serves Shasta County and surrounding counties by providing search, rescue and emergency services to the community.
The motto at TSMC is to nourish the communities they serve and with the current climate amplifying food insecurity throughout communities in California and Northern Nevada, the need to support foodbanks and pantries is vitally important. Dignity Health Connected Living in Redding will receive a $1,000 donation. Early this month, TSMC donated much needed high-demand, staple goods to the Dignity Health Connected Living in Redding, totaling more than 6,000 pounds of healthful food staples equal to over 5,000 individual meals.
