Grocer ends signature charitable-giving program but commitment to community remains
Modesto, Calif.- Today, The Save Mart Companies announced a new approach to the company’s community involvement by ending their signature charitable-giving program, Shares powered by eScrip programs, but commitment to the community remains through expanded community programs.
Serving our communities has always meant more than providing fresh food and high-quality services for our shoppers. Investing in our schools, safety net programs, local events and community services is what it means to be part of each community and that commitment will not change. February 25, 2019, will be the last day to earn money through our Shares powered by eScrip program.
While this longstanding program has allowed us to spread money to many community-based programs, this year The Save Mart Companies has decided to focus directly on the relationship between our stores and their immediate community. To that end, our stores have expanded their involvement in your community in these areas:
- Community Sports programs that sponsor neighborhood school and recreational teams and provide them with weekly snacks throughout the season
- Adopt-a-School programs to support school events, recognize high performing teachers, support school libraries and encourage healthy eating through school field trips
- Agricultural Education through support of Future Farmers of America and 4H programs
- Community Donations—our stores donate product or gift cards to support local school and community events

As always, our support of local Feeding America food banks will continue through our Fresh Rescue program and our twice annual, in-store giving campaigns. Also, The Save Mart Companies C.A.R.E.S. Foundation will continue to give over a quarter of a million dollars annually to community, arts, recreation, education and sports programs throughout our operating area.
