The Agriculture Program at Atwood High School got a boost when Save Mart donated more than 20 tons of compost . It is reportedly one of the most productive school gardens in the country. Atwater Store Manager Roy Torres was on hand to help with the donation.
The Save Mart Companies was an early adopter of composting, embracing the practice in 1997. For produce and other foods that stores cannot sell or donate, the waste is sent to Recology for composting. Last year, the company sent nearly 20,000 pounds of food scraps to composting, diverting it away from landfills.
We love helping out students prepare for careers in agriculture in a region that feeds the world.
